Kuvaus
This course explores and discusses up-to-date knowledge of the effects of multiple global changes on plant biodiversity and a variety of mechanisms by which plant-plant interactions, plant-animal interactions, environmental conditions and spatial context, interactions among global change factors, and plant functional traits can affect plant community responses to global change factors. Using this knowledge, the course aims to build a comprehensive picture of how and why plant biodiversity changes under the contemporary anthropogenic change. The course focuses on using interactive approaches to get students engaged in scientific discussion and real-life scientific research.
Osaamistavoitteet
Students can describe the basic mechanisms by which different global change factors affect plant communities. They can assess and evaluate the role and importance of different abiotic and biotic factors that can modify the outcome of global change effects on plant biodiversity. Students can point out and produce practical implications of global change effects on plant biodiversity in different contexts. Students can understand, interpret, and criticize topical scientific literature and will acquire skills to participate in scientific discussion and communication. Students lean to express their opinions in an international group with English as the scientific language.
