The contents of the course
· Acquiring Intercultural communication competence both in online as well as physical environments and contexts.
· Understanding the complexity of virtual collaboration and its impact on teams and individuals.
· Different approaches to interculturality (functional, interpretative, critical)
· Analyzing and reflecting intercultural and multilingual communication
· Acquiring feedback and reflection techniques.
· Improving multilingual and intercultural communication competence (MICC) in a global context
Description of the course
Students will be engaging in an international project and the course offers tools for analyzing and enhancing intercultural communication competence in different contexts and situations.
The course aims at
· building understanding of the different approaches to multilingual and intercultural communication competence needed in modern global work life.
· Providing a learning environment that allows for experiencing the benefits and challenges of multicultural teamwork (virtual and f2f).
· Enable students to be self-aware and valuable contributors in virtual and f2f collaboration.

Osaamistavoitteet
On completion of the course, the students are expected to:
- Distinguish and analyze different theoretical approaches to intercultural communication
- Understand, reflect, and discuss fundamental issues in multilingual communication and intercultural communication competence [evaluate/assess]
- Participate effectively and appropriately in multilingual and multicultural environments, both during physical encounters and with online teams. [professional/practical skills, apply]
