This course offers a broad, foundational introduction to information technology (IT) and its role in modern society. In addition, the course highlights the role of computing in society, including its applications across industries, the impact of digital transformation, and the responsibilities associated with professional and ethical practice in IT. Topics also include how organizations leverage modern platforms and services, such as cloud, data-driven systems, and AI‑enabled solutions to deliver value in a sustainable and socially responsible manner.
The course supports students in forming a broad understanding of the field as a basis for subsequent studies in computer science and software engineering.

After completing the course, the student is able to
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of the field of computer science and information technology (IT), including their core concepts, scope, and societal relevance.
- Use basic IT tools and practices that support effective learning and provide a strong foundation for subsequent studies.
- Explain the benefits of applying IT solutions in real-world contexts, while recognizing associated costs, ethical considerations, and sustainability impacts.
