Let’s continue to practice the lovely Dutch G-sound together! Both Finnish and exchange students are welcome (CEFR A1-A2)

In this course, learners will develop their language skills while also exploring Dutch and Belgian culture.

This course focuses on using language for communication by training all 5 basic language skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing, and cultural awareness. During the course some lessons will be taught according to the ‘Flipping the classroom’-principle: students will be expected to prepare for some lessons watching videos online in which theory (grammar for example) is explained. During the next lesson this theory will be put into practice by in class discussions and in class individual and group assignments. When in class, learners are expected to actively participate and engage in coursework.

The students build up useful survival vocabulary and learn Dutch grammar for coping with common daily communication needs, such as small talk about the weather, doing groceries, ordering a drink in a bar and going to the doctor. The course focuses on oral communication in social, work and study situations. We also continue to learn more about the culture and way of life of Dutch -speaking countries.

Some of the grammatical items that will be discussed during this course: the future tense, separable verbs, prepositions of place, adjective + e and the degrees of comparison.

Language of instruction: Dutch, English and Finnish. Both Finnish and exchange students are welcome. Finnish languages skills are not needed.

Learners are expected to complete two written Moodle tests: one halfway through the course and one at the end. The tests consist of 4 sections: listening, reading, writing and grammar. During the course students will also work on one group assignment. The end grade that the students receive is based on performance in the different components of each of the tests, the oral exam, the group assignment and by regularly handing in homework during the course.
