Description

This open study course introduces the broad concept of human wellbeing from the perspectives of individuals, communities and societies, and builds understanding of the multidimensionality of wellbeing. Human wellbeing in the different stages of life is examined and structured from several different perspectives, considering financial, physical, social and mental wellbeing. In addition, the interdependence of different domains of human wellbeing that can support or weaken the possibilities of wellbeing is examined.

The course is based on the multidisciplinary wellbeing expertise at the University of Jyväskylä. It deepens understanding of the multiple dimensions of wellbeing as well as their interdependencies. This supports the mutual cooperation of different experts working in multi-professional communities to support wellbeing and its preconditions.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course

  • you know how to structure and examine different dimensions and aspects of wellbeing (financial, physical, mental and social)
  • you understand long-term changes of wellbeing in society, and its key dimensions during the course of life
  • you understand the societal environments and social changes as frameworks for wellbeing
  • you can analyze wellbeing on the levels of society, communities and individuals as separate but interconnected concepts
  • you recognize changes and challenges to wellbeing
  • you recognize different perspectives on wellbeing-related resources
  • you realize that facing difficulties and getting over them is part of wellbeing
