Kuvaus

Information systems (IS) science is interested in the exploitation of information technology in the daily activities of individuals and organizations. A person practicing information systems science is a multi-talent who understands the technological phenomena of the technical, business and organizational point of view, and can design and develop services and systems to improve the functioning of organizations and to meet the needs of individuals. The degree programme aims to develop students' understanding of research in the IS discipline and application of the research results in practice, to develop students' skills in the field of IT and management, as well as to develop students' skills in scientific thinking and analytical work. Information systems teaching and research focuses on e.g. the development of information systems, management of organizational change, management of innovations, service business, cyber security and software business.

Osaamistavoitteet

Graduates can explain the basic concepts, contents, methods and theories of information systems science, and have deepened their expertise in one or more topics within the discipline. They are able to define the problematics of developing of information systems, change management, innovation management and ICT management, as well as methods, tools and practices to develop solutions to those problems. Graduates are able to produce new knowledge in the research area and to act as a contributors in their field. They are able to acquire relevant IS literature, to evaluate sources critically and to apply the acquired knowledge appropriately. They are able to plan and carry out on schedule a research project, which includes the collection, analysis and reporting of research data. Graduates are able to report the progress of the work orally and in writing. They are able to argue in a way that indicates scientific thinking. Graduates understand the essential contents of information system science literature in a way that gives the graduate and opportunity to advance to post-graduate programmes. They are ready to receive new tasks, to seek and apply new ideas and adapt to changes in the environment and tasks. They are able to apply scientific methods and scientific approaches to solving problems. They are able to receive and utilize the feedback in the development of their work and activities. Graduates are able to describe, model and analyze an organization and its activities, information systems and technology. They can evaluate alternatives to improve the functioning of organizations and to meet consumer needs through use of technology. They are able to lead the development of technologies and their implementation in order to improve the operation of organizations through use of technology. They are able to apply the methods and practices to support the development of information systems and ICT management through use of technology. They are able to apply project management and problem-solving techniques to develop solutions. Graduates are able to communicate orally and in writing,​at the level which will enable graduates to build networks and develop themselves across language and cultural boundaries. They are able to work as a member of various groups, bringing their constructive contribution on the group activities to achieve the objectives.
