XYHI1000 Academic and Professional Communication (4 op)

Course description

In this course the students will be working in small groups writing an academic text and developing their communication competence through different tasks. The course consists of independent and group work.

Main contents

• English academic writing conventions
• Synthesizing information for different audiences/target groups
• Communication in virtual teams 

On completion of the course, the student is expected to

• recognise the conventions and registers of language and communication needed in order to transition between academic and professional life.
• be able to analyse and evaluate communication in virtual teams.
• be able to assess and edit their own writing, and use feedback as a part of their writing process.
• be able to synthesise and evaluate sources relevant to their field.
• display the ability to form and effectively communicate research-based arguments in interdisciplinary contexts.
