Content
This course deals with communication related topics in migration research particularly in connection to adaptation, interpersonal relationships and identity processes. The course examines existing paradigms, theories, and models of migration research and critically reviews them. The course invites students to draw parallels between the field of migration and transition and the latest theoretical developments across related research themes such as globalization, interculturality, social justice, sustainability and post-colonialism, looking also at practical applications.

Assessment details
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.

- identify and describe major theoretical frameworks of migration and transition research
- present and discuss the research applications in connection to adaptation, interpersonal relationships, and identity processes
- recognise the interdisciplinary nature of migration research, including its ethical dimensions
- reflect on the status of migration research in connection to main theoretical developments in the field of intercultural communication
- critically analyse, compare and evaluate research on migration and transition, and their applications
- apply key concepts of migration and transition to understand and analyse ongoing societal discourses.
