Content
This course introduces the students to the foundations of qualitative research. The course discusses different methods of data collection and analysis as well as the qualitative research process. Through hands-on exercises, students will learn to implement various qualitative methods. The course enables the students to evaluate qualitative research on the basis of methodological and ethical research principles.

Lectures, written assignments.
Assessment details
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.
Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- understand the connections between different research methods and their underlying paradigms
- identify and understand the underlying assumptions of qualitative research
- identify and evaluate different qualitative methods for data gathering and analysis
- collect, analyze and interpret qualitative data and justify one’s methodological choices
- evaluate the nature of knowledge produced with different methods and its suitability to solve specific research problems
- understand the principles of ethically sound science and act according to them.
