Kuvaus
The Global and
Sustainable Education specialization engages in theoretical and applied
knowledge on the effects of globalization and global emergencies on various
sectors of education in sustainability, development and international contexts.
It further develops understanding of the structural inequalities disturbing education
and development. The roles and responsibilities of education in tackling
inequalities and global crises are given particular attention, including the
theories and social methods affecting institutional change. The specialization
aims to prepare students to theorize social change towards planetary well-being,
and to develop critical understanding of SDG goals and their relation to
national and international policies. The specialization is under the

and the students will have opportunities to attend to the network events, as well as participate and potentially
conduct their Master Thesis project in a research group on Critical approaches

Osaamistavoitteet
Upon completion of the specialisation module in Global and Sustainable Education the student will
- have critical understanding on the theories around education for global and sustainable education
- gain understanding on theorizing social change in education
- have critical understanding of global crises and injustices affecting education and their relation to SDG goals and other international policies
- strengthen understanding of imperial and colonial processes and their impact in the current world order and planetary system
