XDOC2005 Conference abstracts (2 op)

Attending conferences provides researchers at all stages with the unique opportunity to share their own research—and to interact and network with others. Finding the most suitable conference and writing a successful abstract are crucial first steps in this process. The aim of this course is to support doctoral researchers in this endeavour.

Course content:

• How to avoid predatory conferences.
• Different kinds of abstracts and their underlying structure.
• How to determine rhetorical moves in abstracts.
• The importance of a catchy title.
• The language of abstracts.
• How to choose keywords for your conference abstracts.

On completion of the course, participants are expected to…

• know how to find suitable conferences.
• be aware of the characteristics of successful abstracts.
• be able to identify different rhetorical moves in abstracts and apply this knowledge to their own writing.
