Kuvaus

This course is designed to introduce the theoretical underpinnings of the entrepreneurship field. The course offers a comprehensive overview of relevant theoretical traditions, topics, and recent empirical developments in the field of entrepreneurship concerning especially research foci of the Strategy and Entrepreneurship group at JSBE. Course objectives are to provide students with: i) a thorough understanding of the origins and development of the entrepreneurship field, and ; ii) a survey of current research areas; iii) an understanding of the key debates characterizing the field. By the end of the course, students ideally will be capable of engaging in theory-building activities, selecting and applying theoretical approaches that align more appropriately with the economic, organizational, and psychological foundations of the Entrepreneurship field.

Osaamistavoitteet

The key learning outcome is the familiarization of what entrepreneurship field is like. This is important in two respects. First concerns students’ ability to contribute to entrepreneurship research and contextualize their contributions in ongoing research. Second, the course readings prepare students to engage in the teaching of entrepreneurship by providing background information and conceptual canvas for independent design of courses and study modules. Other skills from the course include:
1. Critical thinking.
2. Information searching.
3. Ability to learn and adopt new concepts and ways of thinking.
