Contents

This course covers links between physical activity, health and well-being outcomes; psychosocial determinants of physical activity from behavioral theories; and behavior change techniques – the building blocks of theory-based behavior change interventions.


Mode of Study

Independent reading, lectures with group discussions (18h), individual assignments and a learning diary.


Evaluation

Active participation in lectures and completion of homework assignments (50 %); Written exam (25%); Learning diary (25%)

Osaamistavoitteet

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • understand the evidence linking physical activity with health and well-being outcomes.
  • identify and describe major theories in exercise psychology and behavior change science.
  • identify common behavior change techniques (BCTs) and give examples of how these can be implemented within behavior change interventions.
  • describe the links between BCTs and constructs from common behavioral theories.
