APKO5003 Guiding and assessing written work and assignments (2 op)

The course is designed for academic staff who teach or guide students in English. The main goal is to reflect on your teaching to strengthen the design of written assignments and plan inclusive and effective guidance tailored to diverse student needs. 

We will examine pedagogically relevant written genres across disciplines and discuss strategies for fostering student learning and engagement, integrating different feedback methods, and ensuring fair and transparent assessment. We will also explore tools for self- and peer assessment in collaborative writing. 

Additionally, the course addresses the connection between content and language from the perspective of both students and teachers.

On completion of the course, participants will be able to

• critically reflect on their teaching and enhance the design of written assignments to ensure they are engaging, appropriately challenging, aligned with course objectives, and supported by clear instructions and success criteria.
• provide effective, flexible guidance and support in multiple formats to accommodate diverse student learning needs and challenges.
• implement transparent, fair, and process-based assessment strategies, incorporating self and peer assessment along with diverse feedback methods that foster dialogue.

Participants are expected to be teaching a course in English that involves written tasks and assignments.
