YLAS4120 Financial Statement Analysis and Valuation (6 op)

Financial statements, including cash flows, management reports and sustainability disclosure. Also financial statement analysis, financial ratios, scenario analysis, fair value, intangibles, goodwill, value impairment, net present value, risk and return, valuation of securities, financial instruments and forecasting (e.g. financial distress). 

The course topics support understanding economic growth, financial services and making productive investments according to UN sustainable development goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).

- analyze financial statements critically and theoretically and compare the profitability, solidity, liquidity, and risks of organizations;

- use spreadsheet program in analyzing companies and financial statements, thereby improving the IT, data analysis and problem solving skills of students;

- analyze and valuate securities;

- understand scenario and sensitivity analyses;

- combine and use financial statement information and market data for decision-making and valuation.

Development of meta skills: critical thinking, problem solving.

The course focuses on financial statement analysis and valuation of companies based on financial statement data. We will look both IFRS and national financial statements, other corporate reporting issues and intangibles as well as value-relevance and forecasting results, risks and returns. 

Basic knowledge of financial accounting and finance.

The course slides and materials as well as additionally the "Valuation" course book and other materials, e.g. spreadsheet examples or articles specified by the instructor.
