Course description
This course is for students on the Integra programme who have an elementary level of English which they need to develop towards their goal of becoming effective communicators in academic and professional settings. On this course students will develop their communication skills in a range of everyday, academic and professional contexts. Typical tasks include locating the main points of reliable, field specific information and writing about, presenting and discussing relevant topics with peers from various study backgrounds.

Osaamistavoitteet
On completion of the course, the student is expected to
- be able to communicate appropriately and coherently on topics familiar to one’s everyday, academic and professional contexts
- be able to use various tools and strategies to understand and use reliable popular sources of information related to one’s field of studies
- be aware of the role of English as a tool for multicultural academic communication as well as use the languages in one’s own repertoire as a tool for negotiating meaning
- have acquired the basic independent study skills needed to develop one’s own language and study needs.

Language level: This course is aimed at students with a CEFR level of A2. We cannot guarantee that students will achieve this level upon completion of the course.
