TJTS4903 Business continuity and ICT resilience (5 op)

Business continuity management ensures proactively and reactively the continuation of business operations depending on inherently unreliable ICT.

The course consists of four topical areas:

- Introduction to business continuity management,

- How business continuity is planned?

- ICT resilience and inter-organizational continuity

- High-reliability organizations and the value of collective mindfulness

Each area will be covered with bi-weekly interactive lectures and bi-weekly case discussions. The course follows a flipped classroom method, where students will read articles and cases before the contact sessions, and then discuss the materials together with the group.

Student teams will write 2-3 page reflective memos based on given pre-reading articles before lectures. For case discussions, students will individually prepare a case report submitted before discussion sessions, and then actively participate in discussions during the sessions.

Evaluation is based on the team's reflective memos, case reports, and active discussion participation, and a voluntary group exam or project.

Online course

After completing the course, the student will know the key concepts and measures related to organizational and interorganisational business continuity, i.e., how to prepare for incidents. The students will be able to start developing the business continuity readiness of organizations by following the methodologies presented during the course. Also, the students will learn how to increase the resilience of ICT as part of business continuity efforts. The focus in on managerial and organizational approaches to business continuity with an emphasis on ICT.

It is recommended that students have passed TJTSM51 Information Security Management / KYBS3070 Information Security Management.

The course material is based on research articles.
