This course explores digital services and innovation through service logic, digitalization in organizations, and cybernization, fostering research skills.
Kuvaus
The course focuses on digital services and innovation research. More specifically, we look at the conceptualization of digital service and how this links to the study of digital innovations in organizations. For this purpose, we apply service (dominant) logic conceptualization of service as a foundation for the course. Furthermore, we look at understanding the different facets digital innovation, how this link digitalization of services, and eventually how organizations can continuously innovate digital services in digital platform and ecosystem setting. Finally, we look at how we can move from digitalization to cybernization of services. The course has the goal to critically study, apply and evaluate literature and theories on a variety of key research topics in digital service and innovation. The idea is to give you an understanding about contemporary service research in selected areas and prepare you to conduct your own future research.
Osaamistavoitteet
• After the course, you will recognize the main concepts, mod-els and methods for digital service innovations prevailing in academic literature.
• You will understand the potentials of cyber-physical and oth-er digital systems in creation of digital service innovations.
• You will understand the multidimensionality of organizing and managing innovation development in an organization.
• You will be able to critically analyse the fit and applicability of various concepts and models in digital service and innova-tion.
• You will be able to apply the state-of-the-art concepts and models in your own digital service innovation projects.
Oppimateriaalit
There is no textbook as such for this course
since most of the readings are taken from academic journals and conference
proceedings. However, students are expected to read more widely, and many
useful references can also be obtained from the AIS Digital Library, the ACM
Digital Library, and other bibliographic databases such as ABI/Inform, Science
Direct or the Emerald Library. Many of these libraries and databases are
available online from the University of Jyväskylä Library at http://kirjasto.jyu.fi/. Additional citations and resources can be
