The domain of modern sport from the historical and current perspectives, the relationships between sport, culture and society from public, private and voluntary sectors point of view. Examples and cases will be presented by experts from various areas and organizations in Finland and elsewhere.
Connection of Course Contents to UN Sustainable Development Goals
This course looks into the organisation of modern sport by introducing ethical and other responsibility-related issues in sport. Sustainable development goals related to 1 no poverty, 3 good health and wellbeing, 4 quality education, 5 gender equality, 8 decent work and economic growth, 10 reduced inequalities, 12 responsible consumption and production, 13 climate action, 16 peace just and strong institutions and 17 partnerships for these goals will be discussed in this course.
Osaamistavoitteet
On successful completion of this course, student is able to:
- identify how sport is organized globally
- understand the significance of sport in Finnish society and elsewhere
- identify the different logic of activities in the public, private and voluntary sectors of sport
