CONTENTS:
a range of short stories and children’s literature
creative and practical tasks to promote different ways of reading and responding to texts
narrative ways of thinking and story-based pedagogy
development and (when possible) realization of story-based language activities in field schools.
COMPETENCE:
pedagogical through examining and experimenting with literary genres and narrative forms to support language development,
interactional and diversity-related through the pedagogical selection of different language genres and forms
scientific thinking through exploration of theoretical understandings of narrative thinking and research on literature and narratives as part of language education
ethical through understanding and use of cultural stories as part of identity and language development,
aesthetic through the development and exploration of artistic forms and narrative spaces.
Osaamistavoitteet
Upon completing of the course the student will be able to
differentiate between and select different types of text for educational purposes
understand how different literary texts can be used within pedagogical action
comprehend what stories and narrative approaches offer students in terms of imagination and language enrichment
recognize cultural expressions without relying on stereotypical notions
reflect upon and development practice.
