CONTENTS:

• the notion of integration with regard to content and language goals

• CLIL-based tools to help teachers navigate the dual-focus of bilingual education

• the implications for teaching and studying in foreign-language mediated education

• social sustainability and bilingual education

• bilingual CLIL education in Finland today.

COMPETENCE:

• pedagogical through examination of different forms of bilingual education

• interactional and diversity-related through the development and implementation of bilingual materials

• scientific thinking by drawing on research to develop bilingual approaches

• ethical and societal through the better understanding of language education in relation to individual and community needs. 

Upon completing of the course the student will be able to

• comprehend different forms of bilingual education and related approaches

• acknowledge the opportunities and challenges of integrating language and content curricula in educational communities

• combine theoretical and practical understanding of education in order to develop approaches to bilingual education

• plan and implement bilingual units of work, accompanying materials and assessment.
