NANS7012 NANO2/CH5/PH3: Applied Functional Materials Based on DNA-Nanotechnology (JSS33) (3 op)
Kuvaus
The course will concentrate on DNA-nanotechnology and its utilization in modern nanoscience. Four expert lecturers will introduce and explain the novel but already widely used methods on how the DNA-molecule can be utilized to build self-assembled nanostructures and how these structures can be further utilized for example in photonics, pharmacy and health care, microfabrication etc. The learned methods are currently more and more used in development and research of modern technology and health care, and are thus immediate important and useful for students to learn them.
The course consists of lectures and hands-on laboratory works where students can learn and test themselves the basic DNA-nanotechnology methods, such as, how to fold DNA-origami structures, and also how to simulate the expected outcome.
The virtual part is planned to take place after the physical on-site component. In the virtual events the student will go through and learn important simulation methods developed to estimate the anticipated outcome and the results of the self-assembly processes, which were discussed and learned during the on-site part. This will include for example the computer assisted design of a DNA origami, and simulation of the expected result, as well as electromagnetic simulations of the structures intended to photonics use.
