In this course, students are invited to reflect on the interplay between interculturality and media discourses. This course draws on a wide range of concepts and theories, primarily from Intercultural Communication and Cultural Studies, to help students understand how interculturality is constructed of and constructive of media discourses. Using examples from a wide range of media types and different contexts, the course will invite students to critically reflect on their own media practices and to draw connections between theory and everyday experiences.

Lectures, individual and group assignments.
Assessment details
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.
Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- understand how intercultural communication is shaped through and shaping media discourses
- identify and critically process key concepts and theories about the role of media in society and in connection to interculturality
use concepts from the fields of Media and Cultural Studies to apprehend intercultural communication processes
apply critical understandings of intercultural communication to the study of media discourses and representations
use interdisciplinary knowledge to gain multifaceted understandings of everyday media and intercultural practices and discourses.
