Content
This course teaches the students to critically evaluate the development and utilization of theories and models in studying language use and intercultural communication. The course introduces the students to the basic principles of theorizing social interaction, and the way theories and models are developed and utilized in academic knowledge production. The course focuses on analyzing and discussing key theoretical approaches in the fields related to the LAGIC programme.

Lectures, written assignment, exam.
Assessment details
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.
Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
understand and assess the way theories and models are used in academic knowledge production
identify and describe major theoretical approaches and frameworks in language use and intercultural communication research
critically analyze, compare and evaluate the development and applications of theories on language use and intercultural communication
relate theoretical insights to everyday communication processes and phenomena.
