This course introduces the students to contemporary technologically mediated communication and online cultures. The course addresses global online cultures with specific attention on social and participatory media as communicative practices. Students will explore emerging online cultures and how culture is discursively (re)constructed in online settings. Throughout the course, students will critically evaluate ethical issues related to technology-mediated communication and the Internet.

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
understand the significance of technology-mediated communication from a sociocultural perspective
identify and analyze the history and global development of communication technology with a focus on the Internet
recognize and critically evaluate how culture is discursively (re)constructed in online contexts
identify and analyze ethical issues related to online communication in local and global settings.
