Content
This course provides students with a basic to intermediate-level treatment of quantitative research methods employed in social scientific research. The course trains students to search for and assess academic knowledge produced with quantitative methods. After the course, the students will be able to understand and utilize descriptive and inferential statistical terms and techniques. In addition to quantitative methods, the course also deals with general questions related to research methodology and ethics.

Assessment details
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.
Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
understand the connections between different research methods and their underlying paradigms
identify and understand the underlying assumptions of quantitative research
understand how quantitative research methods are used to test hypotheses and answers research questions
collect, analyze and interpret quantitative data and justify one’s methodological choices
apply basic descriptive and inferential statistical terms and techniques
evaluate the nature of knowledge produced with different methods and its suitability to solve specific research problems
understand the principles of ethically sound science and act according to them.
