KEMS9612 CH3: Target Oriented Synthesis TOS (JSS31) (2 op)
Kuvaus
The course focuses on how to design efficient synthetic routes to organic target molecules with special focus on bioactive compounds (natural products and pharmaceuticals). The course will cover the following main topics: (1) Principles of synthesis design, retrosynthesis and target molecule analysis, (2) Canonical synthetic strategies (transform-based, structure-goal, topological, stereochemical, functional-group based, non-canonical strategies), (3) Divergent and convergent strategies, (4) Symmetry and hidden symmetry, (5) Analysis and comparison of synthetic routes, (6) Implementation of a strategy to design a practical synthesis, (7) Industrial considerations for target oriented synthesis, (8) AI tools in synthesis design.
Osaamistavoitteet
After the course a student will be able to design, compare and evaluate alternative synthetic routes to target molecules, use chemical databases to help with the synthesis design process, and be able to collaboratively design syntheses. The student will also be able to recognize main challenges in synthesizing target molecules in the industrial field.
