Content
This course focuses on the oldest beat in journalism, foreign reporting. It offers first an overview of the long history of the foreign correspondence, and then proceeds to present the new constantly evolving practices of foreign reporting. The course offers the basic knowledge of the work routines of foreign affairs reporters, foreign correspondents, and freelancers including stringers. In order to understand the limits and challenges of the contemporary foreign reporting, the course delves especially into timely cases, and in addition benefits of visiting lecturers.

Assessment details
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes and active participation in classes where an 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.

- recognizes the most important international and national news media outlets focusing on foreign reporting
- understands the work routines of foreign affairs reporters and foreign correspondents
- knows the main sources of foreign reporting
- understands the importance of Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Information Acts for the work of foreign reporting
- recognizes and understands the risks in crisis reporting
- can make critical analyses and summaries of contemporary foreign news.
