The aim of the course is to understand technological change and the repercussions that it has on firm strategy.

Students will understand:

· how technologies evolve

· how technological change affects industry structure

· how technological change shapes success factors of firms

· how IPR protection affects firms and the society at large

· how robotics and artificial intelligence may affect the future of firms

Students will be able to:

· analyse technologies and their future potential

· compare industries as to their phase of evolution

· justify suitable strategies in relation to the technological evolution of the field

· argue for or against legal protection of innovation in specific firm cases

· form scenarios of future technological developments and their implications for technology-based businesses
