Blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) are emerging technologies that promise to shape the 21st century in various domains. This course covers the fundamentals of these technologies and the key concepts such as smart contracts, cryptocurrencies, digital wallets and ICOs. We will discuss the potential benefits and the challenges related to developing blokchain-based businesses and adopting the technology. From a holistic perspective, the course investigates the blockchain-based business ecosystems and their governance while covering the technology, business, legal and regulatory aspects. Some key issues in today's society are discussed as well, such as trust, transparency, data as a capital and digital identity.

The course involves assignments either in groups or individually.

The course is graded based on weekly assignments.

After completing the course, the students will gain an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of DLT and blockchain while critically evaluate its feasibility, benefits and pitfalls.

The student attending the course has completed the IS&CS BSc studies at least partially. The student is capable of analyzing and discussing scientific articles.
