Content

In this course, stories written by women are read and analysed in the context of feminist literary studies. We study the history of women’s writing, acquaint ourselves with the central developments of feminist criticism from the 19th century until today, discuss the most important concepts in the field and read both canonised and less well-known examples of stories written by women.

Contact teaching: participating to lectures, group discussion and writing a final essay.

On completing the course the student

• Is familiar with the most important developments of women’s literature in the English speaking world
• Has knowledge about the development of feminist literary criticism from the early days through second wave feminist criticism and today
• Can discuss feminist literary theory and women’s literature using appropriate terminology
• Is well acquainted with a number of stories written by women and can discuss them critically
