Content
This course introduces international management as an academic field. The participants will get acquainted with international management as ideas, discourses, and socially constructed practices. Among others, the course deals with the challenges that managers of both domestic and international businesses may face in managing across national boundaries, ethics and international public relations, and leadership communication in the context of co-located and global virtual teamwork. Students are encouraged to critically reflect on the popularity of ‘cultural dimensions’ approaches in international business and discuss common assumptions of diversity management.

Lectures, reading assignments, group presentations, exam.
Assessment details
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.
Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course the student will be able to
- identify basic assumptions about international management and leadership
- recognize key differences in managing domestically and internationally
- understand principles of public relations from a global perspective
- evaluate the skills needed to manage and work effectively in different environments and with persons with diverse backgrounds
develop reflective scepticism towards “knowledge claims” of management studies, practicing managers, media, and the general public.
