CIBA160 Neurobiology of Learning and Memory (5 op)

Lectures will be based on the course literature.
Topics include such fundamental issues as long-term potentiation and protein
regulation and the role of the hippocampus in memory formation.
Osaamistavoitteet
Students learn the basic principles of how memories are formed and stored in the brain and how these phenomena can be studied using experimental methods. They understand the general principles of learning that are common to all mammalian species. Students learn the basics of how to find, read and critically evaluate i) a research report and ii) a review article published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Students practice their communication skills while working in small groups to produce short presentations on the course topics to fellow students. During the course, students take responsibility for their own and their fellow students’ learning.
