This module discusses how development is examined in ethnology and anthropology.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module the student will
- know what are the most challenging questions related to development faced by people
living in difficult socio-economic circumstances
- be able to critically assess how power relations influence what is meant by development
in different contexts
- know how the knowledge gathered through ethnographic methods differs from other
kinds of knowledge used in development research and
- will be able to evaluate how ethnographic knowledge can be used in an applied manner
to support the development of studied communities.
