Introduction to the importance and general applications of chemistry in nature, industry and in the living environment of man.

Learning outcomes

After passing the course the student

  • understands the importance of chemistry in society
  • acknowledges the role of chemistry in society
  • recognizes the connection between chemical reactions and everyday life
  • recognizes and understands chemical processes, which are vital for nature and involved in naturally occurring phenomena
  • has a command of the principles of green chemistry
  • knows typical chemical phenomena and reactions occurring in the living environment.

  • Basic knowledge of chemical safety and regulations 
  • Information seeking and choosing scholarly and reliable sources
  • Time management.

Description of prerequisites

Basics of upper secondary school level chemistry or equivalent is recommended. This course does not require knowledge of other basic chemistry courses.
