This short writing course provides support to doctoral students in writing successful doctoral research grant applications. The main focus is on writing a competitive research proposal and an academic CV in English that are convincing in both content and language. Students will also learn about useful strategies to make their application process more efficient through identifying the key funding bodies within their area of inquiry, developing an application schedule, and adjusting their application to match the interests of specific research funders. Recommended for first year or early second year doctoral students.

Training sessions, discussions, pair work, writing workshops.
Arviointiperusteet
Compulsory and active participation. Successful completion of core assignments. Final grading is based on the applicable grading scale for the course.
Osaamistavoitteet
- understand the features of a quality research proposal
- know how to write a CV that complies with the standards of good academic practice
- be familiar with the conventions of academic writing in English including referencing
- know how to evaluate and edit their own writing, and be familiar with online writing resources that can assist them in the writing process
- be able to search for funding possibilities and identify the key funding bodies that support research in their field of inquiry
- develop a grant application schedule to keep track of application deadlines
- acknowledge that different funding organisations have different interests and funding patterns, and be able to adjust their applications accordingly
- be familiar with the typical application procedures, such as filling out online application forms
