This course introduces the participant to management as ideas, discourses, and socially constructed practices. The course deals with the challenges that managers of both domestic and international businesses face in managing across cultural boundaries, and the foundational factors that shape communication, i.e. public relations in a global context. National cultural differences in management and management in government agencies will also be discussed.

Arviointiperusteet
Passing the course requires completion of all required assignments in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied.
Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the course.
Osaamistavoitteet
- identify basic assumptions about management and leadership
- recognize key differences in business and operational practices between countries
- understand principles of public relations from a global perspective
- evaluate the skills needed to manage and work effectively in diverse cultural environments and/or with people from other cultures
- develop reflective skepticism towards “knowledge claims” of management studies, practicing managers, media, and the general public.
