Kuvaus
Sisältö
Building on sociolinguistics, ethnography, applied linguistics and discourse study, this advanced level course in English has two main aims. Firstly, it aims at giving students a comprehensive account of complex forms of late modern multilingualism and the ways in which they integrate with and are an essential part of transcultural activities in physical and virtual environments. Secondly, the course will offer students a range of sophisticated methods for the analysis of multilingual discourses, and provide them with ample opportunities to apply these methods in practice.
More specifically, the course will show how dispersed, local and micro-level practices form an integral part of meso-level, translocal networks, regions and publics as well as global macro-level intercontinental processes, and in addition, it highlights the considerable educational and productive potential embedded in the linguistic practices and proficiencies that it describes.
