The course introduces students to the international organisations that have an impact on regional and national cultural policies. It also offers analyses on the international laws and norms influencing cultures, cultural relations and cultural rights. The course includes case-examples about the afore-mentioned issues. The course introduces discusses also about international cultural representations, consumption and media.

To get good or excellent grade student must participate in the lectures and complete the written assignment (essay/learning diary) on the basis of lectures and the literature. In the written work, student has to be able to give descriptions on the most important international organizations influencing cultural policies and their tasks and relations. Task is also to examplify their work through chosen cases. Student can either summarize the contents of the lectures and critically reflect them or focus on some particular organization or case in the international cultural policy. Important in the written work is that student links the issues from both literature and the lectures.
Following criteria is used when evaluating the written assignment:
1. General academic writing (structure, form, argumentation, logic, articulation etc.)
2. Displayed knowledge of the course material (how well the student knows the course literature and other course material).
3. Analytical capability (how well the student can use what she/he has read, as displayed in analysis and in applying theories to cases etc.).
