Self-study option with two compulsory books.

This unit discusses key concepts, theory and methods in the field of critical discourse studies, the notions of power and identity in the study of discourse, and the role and study of gender and language in various contexts.

Arviointiperusteet

Students' exam answers show good command of the conceptual, theoretical and methodological aspects of the topic and student knows how to apply what has been read in the exam answers. There are two questions in the exam, both of which need to be answered and passed in order for the exam to be approved.

Osaamistavoitteet

After studying the books, the students will be able to:
• explain key concepts, theory and methods in the field of critical discourse studies
• discuss the effects of power in the study of discourse
• discuss the role and study of gender and language in various contexts
