History of the media; media semiotics and the mediated construction of reality; interrelation between language, media, and representation; literacies and oralities; media genres; the rhetoric of media texts.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to
• explain the intricate relation between language and the media, also from a historical point of view
• identify and analyze genres in different media
• evaluate style and accuracy of language and structure of texts in different media
• produce appropriate media texts
