Content

The focus of the course is on the activation and development of basic academic writing skills. Course content includes, e.g. the ways to improve your writing independently and the online tools available for this, the structure and types of paragraphs (argument, compare-contrast, cause-effect etc.) and academic texts, the features of academic language, the steps of the writing process, and how to cite sources.

Completion methods

One contact lesson (2 hrs) per week and independent study. Continuous teacher and peer feedback and on-line interaction on written assignments in Moodle. Compulsory attendance.

Assessment details

Compulsory and active participation. Successful completion of core assignments. Final grading is based on the applicable grading scale for the course.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will have:
- developed basic academic writing skills in English,
- independent learning skills,
- process writing skills,
- skills in giving and receiving peer feedback on writing.
